The Swiss Company Will Produce Passenger Railroad Cars in Kazakhstan

Stadler and KTZ signed a major contract for the supply of compartment and parlor cars. The initiators of the agreement were the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Swiss Confederation, as well as "NC "KAZAKH INVEST" JSC.

As part of the official visit of the Kazakh delegation headed by the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi to the Swiss Confederation in November last year, a Memorandum was signed to expand investment cooperation between Stadler Rail and KAZAKH INVEST. In addition, within the framework of the visit of the Head of State in 2021, an Agreement on strategic cooperation was signed between “NC “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” JSC and “Stadler Rail AG” for 100 million US dollars.

During the current year, the parties agreed on approaches to further improve legislation in terms of stimulating technology transfer, determining the region for project implementation, concluding agreements with local suppliers of raw materials to localize production, etc.

During the visit of Peter Spuhler, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Stadler Rail AG, three long-term contracts were signed for the supply of 537 compartment and parlor cars, including a 20-year full-service contract. The total value of the contract, which includes passenger carriage production and service, is 2.3 billion euros.

Along with this, the Swiss company plans to acquire a local "Plant for the production of passenger cars" in Astana with a staff of about 100 people. The personnel will be trained at other plants of the company, and it is also planned to cooperate with local technical universities for advanced training of specialists.

During the current year, with the assistance of the front office of the Task Force of "NC KAZAKH INVEST" JSC, the parties agreed on the optimal structure of state support measures for the creation of a railroad car building cluster for the production of passenger cars in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Swiss company plans to conclude an Investment Agreement with the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The agreement provides for a number of financial preferences, guarantees of the stability of legislation, supplies of raw materials from domestic suppliers, as well as counter obligations of the investor for technology transfer, training of local personnel, and the level of industrial localization.
