Akim of Almaty Discusses Wastewater Treatment Modernization Projects with U.S. Company World Water Works
Akim of Almaty Darkhan Satybaldy held a meeting with the leadership of the U.S. company World Water Works, which specializes in innovative water treatment solutions.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Sultangali Kinzhakulov, Acting Chairman of the Board of JSC “NC KAZAKH INVEST” Aibol Argyngazinov, and President of World Water Works Amaresh Konamaneni.
The parties discussed the possibility of implementing a joint project in Almaty to modernize wastewater treatment facilities. The Kazakh side presented current plans for upgrading the city’s sewerage system, while representatives of World Water Works shared their experience in introducing advanced wastewater treatment technologies in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
“For Almaty, modernization of treatment facilities and improving the efficiency of wastewater management are among the key priorities. These projects are directly linked to ecology, the quality of life of citizens, and the sustainable development of the metropolis. We see great potential in cooperation with World Water Works and believe that the introduction of modern technologies will significantly enhance the efficiency of wastewater treatment,” noted Darkhan Satybaldy.
Sultangali Kinzhaqulov emphasized that the state will provide comprehensive support for the implementation of the project, noting that attracting and supporting foreign investors in ecology, infrastructure, and water supply is one of the key priorities. According to him, Kazakhstan consistently creates conditions for long-term business operations, ensuring transparent procedures and support at all stages.
In turn, President of World Water Works Amaresh Konamaneni noted that the company is already implementing projects in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, and now plans to enter the Central Asian market. He added that World Water Works has already begun cooperation in Astana and views Almaty as a promising location for launching a similar project.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed readiness to continue dialogue and elaborate on the parameters of the joint project, including opportunities for public-private partnership.
