Investment Prospects in Kazakhstan were Discussed at the Sturgeon Capital Conference
A conference organized by the international company Sturgeon Capital Ltd. was held in Almaty. The event served as an important platform for constructive dialogue and the exchange of experience between business representatives, the investment community, and government institutions. During the panel session “Investment Climate of Kazakhstan” key issues were addressed, including the country’s competitive advantages, investment policy, and economic priorities for the coming years.
The key speakers at the event were Damon Thornburgh, CEO of the Chevron Direct Investment Fund, Azamat Kozhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "NC "KAZAKH INVEST", Timur Onzhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC "NUH "Baiterek"; Sanzhar Zhamalov, Country Manager of Mastercard and Dias Kalazhanov, Partner at KPMG.
As part of the discussion, experts examined the current state of the private investment market in Kazakhstan, promising sectors for capital investment, and key challenges faced by investors.
Azamat Kozhanov emphasized the key role of international investments in Kazakhstan’s sustainable economic development, noting that attracting private capital and strategic partners plays a crucial role in strengthening the country's position as a dynamically developing investment hub in the region.
"Developing private capital and attracting international investors is a strategic priority for Kazakhstan. For more than three years, KAZAKH INVEST has been actively cooperating with Sturgeon Capital on various investment projects, including those involving the Chevron direct investment fund. One significant example of this collaboration is a project with a Turkish investor, initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which ultimately led to an agreement with the Government of Kazakhstan. As part of this initiative, the Chevron fund invested approximately $40 million, becoming a co-investor in the project. This confirms the attractiveness of Kazakhstan’s private equity market and its high potential for new deals," noted Azamat Kozhanov.
KAZAKH INVEST continues its active cooperation with Sturgeon Capital and other investment partners to expand the presence of international investors in Kazakhstan and facilitate the implementation of new investment projects.
