Kazakhstan and Qatar held Intergovernmental Commission meeting in Astana
The seventh meeting of the High-Level Intergovernmental Commission between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State of Qatar was held in the capital of Kazakhstan. The commission brought together key government representatives from both countries, including Minister of State for Foreign Trade of Qatar Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, Vice Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Arman Kassenov, Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gabidulla Ospankulov, as well as representatives of sectoral ministries.
The meeting focused on key issues of political, trade-economic, and investment cooperation between the two countries. Special attention was given to the implementation progress of the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed between the Governments of Kazakhstan and Qatar in March 2024. Participants emphasized the importance of ensuring proper implementation of the agreements reached and systematic monitoring of their execution.
In his remarks, Gabidulla Ospankulov highlighted that relations between Kazakhstan and Qatar are developing within a framework of trustful political dialogue and are acquiring a strategic nature: "In recent years, our cooperation has reached a qualitatively new level. In 2024, the volume of direct investments from Qatar to Kazakhstan increased 17 times – up to $156 million. We believe that the potential of our bilateral relations is much greater, and we are ready for further active implementation of high-level agreements," he stated.
He also recalled that during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to Qatar in February 2024, 12 commercial agreements worth around $18 billion were signed, covering energy, finance, telecommunications, and agriculture. Systematic work is currently underway on their implementation, and Qatari companies are already entering the Kazakh market with major investment projects.
The readiness of Qatari companies to participate in infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan was especially noted, including the construction of gas processing plants, pipeline infrastructure development, and renewable energy projects.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a final protocol, recording the agreements reached and outlining the directions of further cooperation.
