KAZAKH INVEST and Citi Host “China Day with Citi” in Almaty
JSC NC KAZAKH INVEST and Citi hosted "China Day with Citi" in Almaty, bringing together senior leaders from the public and private sectors to discuss the evolving China–Kazakhstan investment landscape and the growing opportunities arising from deeper cross-border connectivity.
The event convened representatives from JSC NC KAZAKH INVEST, the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE), the Central Securities Depository of Kazakhstan, Citi experts, and corporate clients to explore China–Kazakhstan investment dynamics, market infrastructure development, Kazakhstan’s macroeconomic and market outlook, and financial solutions supporting cross-border growth, including FX, hedging, treasury, and payments.
Ddiscussions underscored Kazakhstan’s growing importance as a regional hub connecting Chinese corporates with broader international markets.
In his speech, Sultangali Kinzhakulov, Chairman of the Board of JSC NC KAZAKH INVEST, noted that China holds a leading position among Kazakhstan's trade and economic partners. Last year, bilateral trade turnover reached a record $48.7 billion, accounting for approximately half of China's total trade with Central Asian nations. Furthermore, China remains one of the top five investors in Kazakhstan's economy, with total investments exceeding $30 billion.
“Currently, more than 8,000 Chinese-backed enterprises operate successfully in Kazakhstan. We are implementing over 250 investment projects involving Chinese capital, totaling more than $100 billion, which serves as a strong testament to the confidence in our economy. Kazakhstan offers the best investment climate in the CIS, with vast opportunities in energy, renewables, logistics, and digitalization. We welcome you to explore these new investment horizons,” Sultangali Kinzhakulov emphasized.
Citi reaffirmed its long-term commitment to supporting China-linked flows globally and serving as a trusted partner for Chinese companies operating in Kazakhstan, as well as Kazakh corporates engaging with China.
“China remains an integral part of the global economy – both as a major source of outbound investment and as a key destination for international capital and trade. While global supply chains are evolving, connectivity between China, Central Asia, Europe, and emerging markets continues to deepen. With Citi’s unmatched global network, deep China Desk expertise, and strong local presence in Kazakhstan, we are uniquely positioned to connect our clients seamlessly across borders and support their long-term growth,” noted Saule Zhakayeva, Chairperson of Citibank Kazakhstan JSC.
