Chinese Company May Build $600 Million Waste-To-Energy Plants in Kazakhstan
Azamat Kozhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of NC “KAZAKH INVEST” JSC, held a meeting with Dai Daoguo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chinese company Hunan Junxin Environmental Protection. The parties discussed the implementation of a comprehensive project to construct three waste-to-energy (WtE) plants in Kazakhstan. The total investment is estimated at $600 million.
Hunan Junxin Environmental Protection is already implementing a similar project in Bishkek and is among the leading private environmental companies in China. The company specializes in the construction and operation of WtE facilities, holds over 400 patents, and is actively engaged in the Central Asian market.
During the meeting, Azamat Kozhanov presented the activities of the national company, state support measures, and confirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to provide full assistance to the company’s projects. He emphasized the importance of large-scale projects that combine environmental impact, technology localization, and sustainable energy generation.
“We see strong potential for joint implementation of green projects that meet international standards. Junxin’s experience, including successful initiatives in China and Kyrgyzstan, can contribute significantly to the development of green infrastructure in our cities,” he said.
Dai Daoguo, in turn, noted that the project aims to establish not only processing facilities but an integrated technological ecosystem. In addition to waste incineration plants, the plan includes building green data centers powered by the energy produced, establishing training centers, and introducing smart waste management systems.
“Our goal is not just to build plants, but to implement an innovative approach to waste handling. We aim to bring technologies to Kazakhstan that integrate recycling, energy generation, and digitalization. I’m confident this will be a major contribution to the region’s sustainable development and environmental safety,” he said.
