Project Description:

Processing of copper-containing TMOS (dumps) The Sayak group of deposits by acid leaching "in situ", as well as at the liquid extraction and electrolysis plant (SX-EW) for the production of commercial cathode copper. A distinctive feature of the Project is the low level of geological risk: mineral resources have already been extracted from the subsoil, evaluated and placed on the state balance sheet of the State Commission on Mineral Reserves of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The project provides for the creation of 277 jobs.

Place of Project implementation:

Karaganda region, Aktogay district, Sayak deposit.

Initiator of the Project:

Advans Mining Technology LLP (EMT). The ultimate beneficiary of EMT is Commonwealth American Partners L.P., a company with 20 years of experience in the oil and mining industries in the world.

Commercial products, capacities and sales markets:

Cathode copper grades M00k or M0k according to GOST 859-2001 (LME class "A"). The maximum capacity of the plant is 10,000 tons per year. The company is considering the sale of products through trading brokers Glencore, Noble Group, Traxys and Trafigura.

Production process:

  1. Supply of sulfuric acid to the dump and leaching of ore in the dumps, production of electrolyte solution, electrolysis of the solution
  2. Production of cathode copper.

Prerequisites for the implementation of the Project

Stable demand. Cathode copper is in consistently high demand on the world market. Kazakhstan borders with China– the world's largest importer of copper products, which provides a short transport shoulder for exports.

Advantages of production technology. The proven low-cost technology for carrying out the work makes it possible to achieve positive profitability in conditions of low copper prices.

Sufficient raw material base. According to the GKZ of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Protocol No. 1688-16-U dated 14.07.2016, No. 1788 -17-U dated 24.02.2017), the total reserves of resources extracted from the subsurface in categories C1+C2 amount to 397,400 tons of copper with an average content of 0.125%. In 2019, Wardell Armstrong International confirmed reserves at the level of 394,200 tons of copper (a specific gravity of 0.123%).

An experienced team. The management team of the Company has successful experience in implementing similar projects for the leaching of dumps using the SX-EW method in Konrad (Kazakhstan) and Erdenet (Mongolia).
