Issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed at the Kazakh-Belarusian Forum

Kazakhsan and Belarus discussed issues of investment cooperation within the framework of the Kazakhstan-Belarus Online Business Forum.  The event was attended by about 100 representatives of local executive bodies, the quasi-public sector and business communities of the two countries.

During the event, the parties considered the possibilities of cooperation in such sectors of the economy as agriculture, construction, pharmaceuticals, information technology, etc.

Opening the meeting, Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Belarus Askar Beisenbayev focused on the implementation of the strategic investment agreement, which provides for a new tool for supporting investors. The package of incentive measures includes in-kind grants, concessional financing, partial guarantees, full-fledged export support mechanisms, etc.

In turn, the Acting Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ardak Zebeshev and the Deputy Chairman of the Board of «NC «KAZAKH INVEST» JSC Zhandos Temirgali told about the existing measures of state support for investments, a wide range of benefits and preferences, as well as about the ongoing work to improve the investment climate in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In his speech, Ardak Zebeshev focused on the message of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, which outlined the priority of work on attracting investment and concrete further steps to attract and retain investment in the country.

«The consistent course of modernization of the country allows foreign companies to successfully conduct their business in Kazakhstan. It is important for us not only to attract high-quality investments, but also to retain existing investors, so we are open to cooperation, proposals and discussion with business of constructive ideas to increase their inflow and further improve the investment climate», - added Ardak Zebeshev.

At the same time, Deputy Chairman of the Board of «NC «KAZAKH INVEST» JSC Zhandos Temirgali in his speech underlined the high potential for the development of investment cooperation between the two countries in the agribusiness and the food industry.

«The total area of agricultural land in Kazakhstan is more than 200 million hectares, including arable land-about 25 million hectares and pastures-almost 180 million hectares. In addition, there is a high potential for the introduction of new irrigated land for the production of agricultural products, followed by deep processing on new investment projects. Kazakhstan has direct access to major global markets such as China, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. This is provided for both by transport and logistics routes and trade agreements», - said Zhandos Temirgali.

At the same time, the forum participants were provided with information about the new national project for the development of the agro-industrial complex, which provides for the formation of at least 7 ecosystems for the extraction and processing of agricultural raw materials, as well as a new regulatory framework for the activities of small and medium-sized businesses in this area.

Following the forum, the parties agreed on the need to deepen mutually beneficial trade, economic and investment cooperation between the two countries, as well as to hold a number of bilateral meetings.

It should be noted that by the end of 2020, the total volume of foreign direct investment from Belarus to Kazakhstan amounted to about $50 million. Kazakhstan has a number of investment projects with the participation of Belarusian investors, many of which are in the agricultural machinery industry.
