Construction of a New 50 MW Combined-Cycle Power Plant Begins in Zhambyl Region
A ceremonial capsule laying marked the start of construction of a new 50 MW combined-cycle power plant (CCPP) in the village of Auliekol, Zhambyl District, Zhambyl Region.
The event was attended by Yerbol Karashukeyev, Akim of Zhambyl Region, representatives of investors, and Zhandos Rustembayev, Regional Representative of NC “KAZAKH INVEST” in Zhambyl Region. The ceremony took place as part of the national press tour “Zhambyl Invest: New Projects – New Jobs.”
The project is being implemented by GES Myrzatai LLP with investments totaling $60 million. Implementation will take place in two stages: the first phase will include the construction of a 50 MW power plant, while the second phase will expand capacity to 150 MW, bringing total generation to 200 MW.
According to Hou Chuanqun, the project manager, all preparatory work has been completed — a 7-hectare land plot has been secured, engineering and hydrogeological surveys completed, a 185-meter-deep well drilled, a general contractor selected, and technical specifications for gas connection obtained.
Approximately 500 specialists will be involved during the construction phase, and once operational, the plant will create 80 permanent jobs.
Currently, Zhambyl Region hosts 24 energy facilities with a total capacity of 1,721.3 MW, the largest being the Zhambyl State District Power Plant (1,107 MW). Over the first ten months of 2025, the region produced 3.6 billion kWh of electricity, a 21% increase compared to the same period last year.
The GES Myrzatai project will make a significant contribution to the region’s energy infrastructure, enhance the energy resilience of southern Kazakhstan, and further stimulate investment activity in Zhambyl Region.
