Akmola region shares border with the Northern Kazakhstan region in the north, with Kostanay region in the west, with Pavlodar region in the east and with Karaganda region in the south.
Area – 146,2 thousand
Population - 731 300 people (urban – 341 700; rural – 389 600).
Administrative center – Kokshetau city.
Administrative-territorial division – 17 districts and 2 cities of regional significance - Kokshetau and Stepnogorsk.
Macroeconomic indicator - GRP – 5,410 bln. USD, GRP per capita – 7 400 USD.

Priority sectors of development are agriculture, tourism, machine engineering, energy, construction industry. A significant part of the gross regional product (GRP) is represented by agriculture, industry, trading and construction. Akmola region is one of the major grain producing regions in the country and main exporter of grain.
One of the strategical directions of investing is to develop Shuchinsk-Borovoe, Zerenda and Sandyktau resort areas.
There are proven unique reserves of gold, silver, uranium, molybdenum, industrial diamonds, kaolin and muscovite, as well as iron ore, coal, dolomite, common minerals, mineral water and mud on the territory of the region. Estimated value of balance reserves are at least 20 billion U.S. dollars and anticipated resources - more than 100 billion U.S. dollars.
Akmola region is the ninth largest territory of Kazakhstan. Administrative- territorial division of the region is divided into 17 districts and 2 cities of regional importance ( Kokshetau, Stepnogorsk ), 236 rural (village) districts. There are 15 villages, eight towns of local significance ( Akkol , Atbasar , Derzhavinsk , YesilYereimentau , Makinsk , Stepniak , Shchuchinsk ) , 626 rural settlementsin the region. Akmola region has considerable industrial potential, which is represented in mining industry, machine building, ferrous metallurgy, processing of agricultural products, construction industry.

Agricultural production is one of the priorities of the region. Akmola region is one of the major grain producing regions in the present and for the future is one of the country's major exporters of grain, including wheat and durum strong. Occupying only 5.4% of the land area produces 12% of the country's agricultural production, a quarter of wheat grown in Kazakhstan, highly valued in the world market.

As part of the Ministry of Industry program , the following perspectives for the development of the tourist industry :
- Creation of tourist cluster along the international transport corridor "Western Europe - Western China" with the construction of road infrastructure .
