Asset Tuyakbayev, Director of the Projects Department of KAZAKH INVEST National Company JSC, held a working meeting with the management of Guoyou Materials Group, during which the prospects for implementing a large-scale infrastructure project in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan were discussed.
During the meeting, the company presented the current status of elaboration of the project to construct the Kuryk multifunctional port complex, which is considered a key element in forming a sustainable sea–rail logistics chain along the China–Caspian–Caucasus–Europe route within the development of the Middle Corridor. The project provides for the establishment of a modern transshipment cluster on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea, utilizing advanced technological and digital solutions.
The investment volume for the first phase of the project is estimated at approximately USD 300 million, while total investments upon completion of all stages may reach up to USD 1.1 billion. The project will enable the creation of up to 800 permanent jobs, and up to 1,500 jobs during the construction and installation phase. Commissioning of the facility for industrial operation is scheduled for 2028.
The project includes the construction of seven berths, warehousing and logistics infrastructure, railway and road access lines, as well as the implementation of digital cargo flow management systems, including a TOS platform and EDI integration. The capacity of the first phase of the port will amount to up to 180,000 TEU of container cargo, up to 180,000 units of automotive equipment, and 2–3 million tons of bulk cargo per year. The start of construction and installation works is planned for the current year.
Asset Tuyakbayev noted that the development of port and logistics infrastructure is one of the key priorities of Kazakhstan’s investment policy. According to him, implementation of the project at Kuryk Port will strengthen the country’s transit potential, increase the throughput capacity of the Middle Corridor routes, and create additional conditions for attracting cargo flows between Asia and Europe. He also emphasized the interest of the Kazakh side in further supporting the project and elaborating it taking into account national infrastructure and transport priorities.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their interest in continuing cooperation and further elaboration of the project, taking into account Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics development priorities and the potential of the Middle Corridor.
