Carlsberg Opened New Production Facility in Kazakhstan for $50 mln

With the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and JSC "NC "KAZAKH INVEST," Carlsberg Kazakhstan opened a new production site in Almaty worth $50 million. The plant increased its production capacity of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages from 2.3 million hl to 3.0 million hl per year. Anara Mekebayeva, the Head of Cooperation with European countries of the national company, attended the opening ceremony.

The production site is equipped with modern equipment from leading European brewing equipment manufacturers. The launch of production will contribute to ensuring 100% localization of brewing and non-alcoholic products to meet the domestic needs of the Kazakh market and exports to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Armenia  and other countries.

Carlsberg Kazakhstan will provide jobs for about 500 production employees in Almaty and over 2,000 employees of distribution companies in the regions of Kazakhstan.

At the opening ceremony, Lars Lehmann, First Vice President for Central and Eastern Europe of Carlsberg Group, thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and KAZAKH INVEST for their support in implementing the investment project.

"As a leading international investor in the food industry, from 2008 to the present, we have invested about $213 million in the beverage industry in Kazakhstan. When implementing investment projects, we pay increased attention to the social aspect, creating jobs in our improved plant and related sectors. For one person directly employed in the brewing industry, ten people are working in agriculture and SMEs," Lars Lehmann said.

"The launch of new production lines by Carlsberg Kazakhstan contributes to the dynamic development of related industries, particularly glass, aluminum, food, and others. Carlsberg, its high quality standards, participates in enhancing the quality of domestic goods, bringing them up to premium international standards, thereby increasing the share of Kazakhstani exports in the processing industry." noted Anara Mekebayeva.

The need to expand Carlsberg Kazakhstan's local production facilities arose due to the current geopolitical situation in the region. The company has successfully completed a two-year project to expand capacity in Kazakhstan by a third of current production. It is worth noting that Carlsberg Kazakhstan is the largest producer of low-alcohol beverages in the Republic of Kazakhstan and is one of the three largest brewing international giants.
