SUCCESS STORIES IN KAZAKHSTAN. BASF
Saule Baitzhaunova, General Director of BASF Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan), told about BASF and its activities in Kazakhstan.
Saule, tell us briefly about BASF.
BASF is a world leader in the chemical industry. The portfolio includes oil and natural gas, as well as chemicals, plastics, special chemicals, products for agriculture and fine chemistry products. The company conducts its business in accordance with the principles of the concept of "sustainable development". All products and system solutions from BASF are high quality and contribute to save the planet's resources and improving the quality of people's lives. This approach corresponds to the motto of the company: "We create chemistry for sustainable future".
How long the company works in Central Asia and what results were achieved?
BASF's business in Central Asia began in 1992 with the opening of a representative office of BASF in Kazakhstan and sales of agricultural chemistry. Later, in 2002 the first production of dry mixes was launched in Almaty, and in 2005 started the production of liquid additives. In July 2006, production of concrete additives was opened in Astana. Later, in 2016, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the plant, the company launched the production line of epoxy materials. Today LLP "BASF Central Asia" is actively working in the region and has a reputation of a reliable manufacturer of high quality materials.
The company's head office is located in Almaty and is a regional center for the markets of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In addition to the branches in Astana and Atyrau, we also have offices in Tashkent and Ashgabat. The company has its own production of construction chemicals in the cities of Almaty and Astana and offers a wide range of technical consultations for customers.
Today, BASF is represented in key industrial sectors of the Republic of Kazakhstan: mining, automotive, agro industry, construction, oil and gas. The company plans to expand further its presence in all key industries with its products, solutions and know-how.
As far as we know, you became the first Kazakh head of the company in the region. How long have you been in company and what difficulties have you faced?
In 2004, I came to the position of branch Director in Astana. We were responsible for the Eastern, Northern and Central regions of Kazakhstan and worked under the brand name of USTA, which after a while was retained by BASF. In 2006, the company's management decided to open a factory for additives in concrete in Astana. This was due to the active development of our sales in the Northern region, climatic conditions and logistics costs reduction. Over the next three years and a half construction chemicals division was one of the most dynamic in the region. We had a stable sales growth, we have shown not only quantitative, but also qualitative indicators. In November 2012 I took up my duties as Head of construction chemicals for Central Asia and moved to Almaty.
In October 2016 I was offered the position of General Director of LLP "BASF Central Asia". Of course, for me it was a definite challenge, but I'm sure that my knowledge of the region and the great work done by my predecessors, will be a great help in the development of company’s business in Central Asia.
Based on knowledge of our region, I believe that a comprehensive approach of our products and solutions to every project and to every client will allow us not only to grow and attract new directions, but also to expand the potential of different industries in the country.
We are glad to cooperate with KAZAKH INVEST, as they act as a vital link between investors and government, providing full support, from consulting to implementation of projects in reality. I hope our cooperation will be long and fruitful.
Saule, thank You for the pleasant conversation. We wish you and BASF success and prosperity!
